Mental Health
We at IBC understand that the term mental health has a stigma of being focused on the negative side of our psychology. We are committed to changing that and therefore have adopted the term `Mental ill health conditions.’
We all have mental health and we want to focus on promoting, supporting, and enabling positive mental health by ensuring the people we support have the best possible lives, experiences, and support. We understand that life can be challenging at times and when this is combined with underlying health conditions, injury, trauma, a lack of support through the inability to communicate effectively, people not listening, or having to wait long periods for the right treatment, we know the people will struggle and may deteriorate resulting in mental ill health conditions. Some may have lived with these conditions most of their lives and some may have developed them due to varying trauma. To us, what we care about is helping people get better, cope with these conditions and ensure they have a good life.
IBC is committed to supporting individuals with mental ill health conditions through ongoing therapeutic support, person-centred care, and truly getting to know the people we support so that they feel happier in their lives knowing they have a support network around them. We achieve this through matching the right staff to each individual through skills, experiences, knowledge, personality, and interests. Staff are given training, knowledge, and support to understand a variety of mental ill health conditions, active support, primary and secondary prevention strategies, self-harm prevention and care, trauma-informed care, and are given access to all necessary paperwork concerning each person we support and knowledge of services that can support such as PBS referrals and medical reviews.
We at IBC also value the importance and need for de-briefing and active listening as everyone has a voice and should be heard. Everyone`s well being is important and so we make every effort to conduct ongoing welfare checks and reviews for not only the people we support but also for our staff teams. Employee welfare programmes, supervision and positive cultures are important to us to ensure teamwork, consistency, and a happy play for staff to provide the highest standards of care possible, which in-turn provides a comfortable and caring living environment for the people we support enabling trust and positive relationships.
